Riding on the wild seas with your beloved vessel can be fantastic but it brings a fair share of dents and bruises to the most important part of your boat, the transom.
Transom in a fibreglass boat is its backbone, supporting the whole weight of the boat while also maintaining its shape. It is located at the aft-most section of the boat that connects to the port and starboard sections. People mostly write the name of their vessel on this part.
Over the course of normal usage, exposure to harmful elements, wear and tear, will cause even the best-built boat to fall a victim to timber rot. Timber rot will cause the transom core to deteriorate and cause your vessel to develop an unstable condition.
Over time the damage starts to reach the deeper recesses of the boat and begin affecting other components within the boat as well, such as the stringers and floors. It’s highly recommended to repair the damages in time to avoid further complications.
But not to worry, even though your transom gets damaged, It can still be saved if you find professional help from us. Why do you ask? It’s because amateur repairmen have a tendency to use a single method for all repairs which can cause the integrity of the boat to be further compromised.
We can either further strengthen or replace the transom altogether depending on the damage status.
The transom may need additional reinforcement and most often consist of one or more layers of plywood, which is cut to its shape and affixed into place with resin. Once the plywood is in place, then additional layers of resin and fibreglass are applied for maximum protection.
Even though replacing a transom is a complicated job, it isn’t much of a challenge for professionals with hands-on experience.
A more permanent solution to transom repair is completely replacing it from inside the boat. It means the removal of all internal components including engine, seats and tanks so we can solely work on the transom.
By tracing the shape and materials used in the original transom, we use top of the line plywood or lumber yard exterior ply that assures no compromise in safety of your vessel and provides a safe experience.
If you are worried about the damages on your vessel, or just want to consult other matters related to your boat with professionals, be sure to give us a call and we will respond promptly.
